LinkedIn Marketing An Hour A Day, written by Viveka Von Rosen is a book that should be on the desk of every business person who truly wants to learn how to leverage LinkedIn.
Von Rosen’s book is targeted to people with a wide range of knowledge. Even if you already have a LinkedIn account, she recommends reading through all of the chapters. I took her advice and oh how glad I am. Keep reading to find out what’s in it for you.
LinkedIn Marketing An Hour A Day is a workbook-style guide to learning how to position and brand yourself and/or your company on the popular business networking site. Viveka’s book lays out everything you have always wanted – and didn’t know you wanted – to do on LinkedIn. And don’t worry; many days are more like 15-minute days instead of hour-long.
Von Rosen starts the book by not only introducing LinkedIn and its key concepts, but she focuses heavily on how to setup AND manage your profile. Viveka takes you on a step-by-step process of learning LinkedIn. She breaks up your learning tasks into daily assignments, Monday through Friday with weekends off.
In the 11 chapters of the book, she explains how to expand your network, how to setup and manage your profile and how to use LinkedIn as a great marketing tool to advance your career, build powerful connections and grow your business. She also sources and provides other sites that you can use to help you become more visible and marketable.
In taking full advantage of the book, you can use the downloadable checklists, schedules and tools Viveka has provided to help you optimize your time using LinkedIn.
Getting Audience Specific
Viveka even delves into different audiences by talking specifically about classes of LinkedIn users like Realtors, job seekers, entrepreneurs, and recruiters. But Von Rosen doesn’t stop there. She also reaches out to companies by walking through company profiles, products and services pages. On that note, because of those chapters, I now have a much better company page and associated service pages. I think many will be blown away by what is possible in building out one’s company page.
Viveka teaches you so many ways to strategically market. For example, would you like an accountant to see a different profile than a lawyer? You can do that. Von Rosen will show you how. She also explains how you or your company might benefit from a paid LinkedIn account which provides more statistics and a few bells and whistles over the traditional free account.
Manage Your Network and Make It Work For You
You can’t stop your LinkedIn experience at a perfect profile, though. Once you’re on, you have to manage your network and make it work for you. Von Rosen guides the reader through things like tagging connections, which can allow you to directly communicate to a group of people all at once, instead of one at a time. She discusses the importance of status updates, too. We aren’t talking about a status update from Facebook here! We also aren’t talking about trying to push that dirty four-letter word, the “S-A-L-E”. Von Rosen says it is more about educating, sharing, and helping. And speaking of sharing, Von Rosen talks about the importance of finding quality groups. She says that users need to “be discerning” and avoid the ones that are merely SPAM factories.
